“Courage” by Dustin Hunt // Spring 2021
208 South Washington Square // Lansing, Michigan

‘Courage’ aims to celebrate and represent the brilliance of black women, born and raised in Lansing. The subject of this design is a dear friend, Santoria. During the summer of 2020 we had several conversations around racialized experiences and creative responses moving forward. I shared an idea about capturing her essence in a large mural, along with a word that she would want associated with her portrait. She loved the idea and she chose courage.
McShane Photography captured the magic in Santoria catching a glimpse of herself in the finished mural and wow. Just wow.
This project was made possible with support from Downtown Lansing Inc. Special shout out to LANARTBUS for the support throughout the week.
